Song Meaning: What Do You Do For Money Honey

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: Back in Black | RELEASED: 1980
Song Meaning: What Do You Do For Money Honey
Almost all the AC/DC song are about sex, and this is no exception. Their ability to culminate street-life living experiences garnered from over half a decade of touring prior to the release of Black in Black have resulted in songs deeply rooted in the theme of sex. These include "Let Me Put My Love Into You,", "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Shoot to Thrill" and the song I'm about to analyze, "What Do You Do For Money Honey."

The song is about a prostitute, who I'd like to think that AC/DC was familiar with back in the day. Lyrics explores her excessive lifestyle.

Analysis of lyrics:

Like any other good song, first introduces the subject matter. Right off the bat, we know the song is about a prostitute when you hear the first two lines. As the verse progresses, we get to know more about her - a restless, uneasy, and annoying person, which AC/DC sums up as "bitch." That's the best the way to describe such women in academia as well, in case you didn't know :-).

Song Meaning: Shoot to Thrill by AC/DC

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: back in black | RELEASED: 1980
Song Meaning: Shoot to Thrill by AC/DC
"Shoot to Thrill" is yet another classic from AC/DC's seventh studio album, Back In Black.

As it's often the case with songs that have loosely written lyrics, the meaning of such is somewhat inconclusive. Sometimes the artist(s) purposely leave these "wholes" in the songs for the listener to fill them as they wish.

Song Meaning: Thunderstruck by AC/DC

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: THE razor's edge | RELEASED: 1990
"Thunderstruck" is typical AC/DC hard rock material, but that doesn't mean it's bad by any stretch of the imagination. The song is about a celebration and having a good time, as it's often the case with most hard rock songs. Thunderstruck, however, specifically refers to the act of frightening a person out of the blue... in a good way. In other words, it's more of a pleasant surprise.

Song Facts & Meaning: Back In Black by AC/DC

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: BACK IN BLACK | RELEASED: 1980
Title track of AC/DC 8th studio album,
Title track of AC/DC's best selling album is a tribute to late Bon Scott. Brian Johnson was brought into the band as the new front-man following Scott's tragedy. Although there were thoughts of abandoning the band as a result of their former front-man's death, Angus and Malcolm Young were determined to come back stronger than ever. "Back in Black", and the Album as well, is very indicative their come back journey.

Song Meaning: Hells Bells by AC/DC

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: BACK IN BLACK | RELEASED: 1980
"Hells Bells" is the first track of AC/DC's best settling album, Back in Black. I don't know if the song is a reference to band's previous album, Highway to Hell. Nevertheless, the song conforms to most of the material on their previous albums, emphasize by the fact that Angus was still struggling to learn new chords! It's a low-blow, I'll admit :-).

Feel-good song of the 1980s, as I'd like to describe this :-), "You Shock Me All Night Long" perfectly sums up the essence of rock n' roll. It all about having a good time with your favorite lady.

Song Meaning: Rock N' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution by AC/DC

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: BLACK IN BLACK | RELEASED: 1980
The song is one of many highlights of AC/DC's best selling album, Black in Black. It perfectly coincide with rock n' roll themes: drugs, sex and rock n' roll itself. "Rock N' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" celebrates all the good aspects of, well, rock n' roll. It can be loud, but it sure ain't noise pollution. You have to undeniably agree with this if you listen to crap on the radio today.

Song Meaning & Analysis: It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll) by AC/DC

ARTIST: AC/DC | ALBUM: T.N.T. | RELEASED: 1975
This is one of my favorite AC/DC songs. The song is considered one of AC/DC's signature ones, along with "Back in Black", "Highway to Hell" and "You Shock Me All Night Long." Yes, they have a zillion classics! Speaking of which, just like any other single AC/DC released, this too became a staple on classic rock radio. A video was shot to promote the song on Australian TV( keep in mind that there was no MTV at the time in 1975 ).

Song Meaning: Highway to Hell by AC/DC

Highway to Hell  - title track of 5th album
The title track from AC/DC's fifth studio album marked the band's dominance on rock radio. Released in 1979, the song propelled the album to commercial success and mainstream recognition, especially in the US, when Rock N' Roll was the popular music. The album saw the front-man Bon Scott's final collaboration with the band. He passed away very next year. Let's hope Highway to Hell wasn't indicative of his fate afterlife.

The song has always been a fixture on AC/DC's live setlist, now performed by Brian Johnson.

What's Good...
