Song Meaning: God is Dead By Black Sabbath

ARTIST: black sabbath | ALBUM: 13 | RELEASED: 2013
Song Meaning: God is Dead By Black Sabbath
"God is Dead?" from Sabbath's 13
Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath did an interview for NME in which they said they didn't want the single to be titled "God is Dead" as it's way too provocative, but Ozzy insisted. What Ozzy wanted to do was, being a christian himself ( along with Tony and Geezer ), to show that God was indeed alive and well in his life through the lyrical buildup of the song. So if you're a far-right christian, stop denigrating Black Sabbath thinking they are attacking Jesus; they are not. You'd have to look deep into lyrics to get the full meaning of the song, which I'll do soon. Contrary to what many think, Sabbath are nice people. The "evil" stuff that Ozzy does on stage are just an act, and no way indicative of his worldview. Case in point, Ozzy eats bats for dinner, and that's a very christian thing to do. #JustKidding

Song Meaning & Analysis: War Pigs by Black Sabbath

War Pigs from Black Sabbath's Paranoid album
Black Sabbath is showcasing their antiwar philosophy in the song, "War Pigs." The title refers to personnel who wage and carries out wars, but largely keep their distance for getting their "hands dirty." Case in point, US government. The song fittingly came out in 1970 in Black Sabbath's Paranoid album while the Vietnam War was in full effect, thus adding more meaning to already in-depth lyrics.

This song, along with the title track, are highlights of Black Sabbath's first studio album. This song especially secures their unique place in the history of punk rock music as well as pioneering heavy metal. Today, the song is considered to be one of Black Sabbath's best works, as well as a significant milestone in the enduring history of hard rock and heavy metal.

Song Meaning: Paranoid by Black Sabbath

Artist: Black Sabbath| Album: Paranoid | Released: 1970
Song Meaning: Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Paranoid is the title track of the second Black Sabbath album
A classic heavy metal song by a band that pioneered heavy metal in the 70's, "Paranoid" perfectly defines the themes of a true heavy metal song: death, depression, daemons, and darkness. The single was a hit on rock radio. It was facilitated on the back of the escalating Vietnam War; many people related the heartbreaking news stories of the war to the paranoia described in the lyrics.
