Song Meaning: Best of You by Foo Fighters

The song is about showcasing the inner conflicts of Dave Ghrol (he's the band's principal songwriter), or, in a general sense, that of everybody else. As I was first doing the analysis of lyrics, I came across many references to committing suicide, but these were made in a figurative sense, obviously.

Analysis:

I'm your fool - this means Dave has relinquished all his will, and has become a puppet to whoever's controlling him. It could be either someone else who doesn't necessarily resembles a human persona, or his screwed up mind itself.

Everyone's got their chains to break - Dave has become really frustrated to the point where he'd like to almost give up his life.

Were you born to resist or be abused? - You tell me, Dave. What do you think?

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you? - Dave is asking him the question whether he's being a slave to someone else, or even to himself ( in some cumbersome way )

Are you gone and onto someone new? - Another question. I think this means, "Are you going to quite on life when your back is against the wall?"

I needed somewhere to hang my head / Without your noose - another reference to committing suicide, except Dave wants to do it in his own terms, refusing "your noose."

My head is giving me life or death - Dave is really perplexed and paranoid with himself. He doesn't know whether to live on or die.

I swear I'll never give in - Finally Dave decides to not give up on life, and face his adversities and detractor(s).
