Meaning of "Burning Bridges" is what you think it is: cutting of ties with your past so there's no retreating. Sometimes it's a good thing if your past is something you don't want to revisit, but cutting ties with friends and family, of course, comes with a cost. The song comprised of very simple lines, and thus, there's no point in picking individual lines like I usually do and analyzing them for a thorough meaning. Even if you consider each line, or clump of lines, you won't be able to construct an insightful meaning. Instead, I think it's better to look at the song as a whole, not even focusing on each verse either. In that case, all I can make out of this song is that Dave is writing about his past experiences that he's trying to run away from, rather than running away from a one particular person. "Whatever keeps you warm at night" is the most telling line the song for me, because at night when you're all by yourself, you tend to recite your past - good stuff and bad stuff. If hankering onto stuff of the past that make you feel miserable, you might want to let those go. It may be difficult at the first but eventually you have to move the fuck on. That's life! Life isn't meant to be perfect, it's how perfect of a life we want to live.
